HOLIDAY MESSAGE FROM DR. BURAK
Dear Lynbrook Families,

With the holiday season fully upon us, we are continuously reminded that this time of year is a season of goodwill – not only in the traditional giving of gifts, but more importantly, in the giving of time to help those less fortunate and performing random acts of kindness. Our students and staff continue to amaze me in their efforts to reach out and help others. Throughout the holiday season, each is playing a part to brighten someone else's day.

This is also a time in Lynbrook where we take great pride in celebrating our diverse community.  We are a community that encompasses an increasing number of students of various ethnicities and cultures.  The holiday season provides us with the opportunity to celebrate both our diversity and our commonalities.  We are all different yet we are also the same. One important commonality, indeed, is that we are Lynbrook.  We share the colors of "Green and Gold" and hope that those colors supersede all differences and bind us together as one community of children, parents, neighbors and friends.

During the year, we have heard reports throughout the country of bias-related incidents, I ask that families take the time to discuss with their children the sensitivity we must all use when speaking with one another.  Words and actions do hurt, even if those wounds are not visible.  We do not want children to be hurt, but rather, feel welcome and safe in the schools and in their community.

While at this time of year we may celebrate different holidays, we can all agree that this time of year is one to come together as a community in harmony, blending together and looking out for one another, especially those in need.

I trust that with your continued cooperation and understanding, we can educate all students in an academically enriching and safe and welcoming environment, encouraging each and every one of them to reach their fullest potential.

I wish all of you a very happy and healthy holiday season and joyous New Year.

Warm Regards,

Dr. Melissa Burak
Superintendent of Schools
