BAGPIPE HISTORY LESSON
North Middle School sixth-graders were treated to a bagpipe history lesson in honor of St. Patrick's Day. History teacher Joseph Beyrer, who is the school's resident piper, treated students to several traditional bag pipe tunes, along with a lesson about the pipes, how they work, the parts of the bag pipe, as well as a related history lesson. Students asked many questions about the instrument and the traditional garb often worn by bag pipers. Mr. Beyrer is scheduled to march and play in several St. Patrick's Day parades this year.

ALL-COUNTY ARTISTS
Thirty students in the Lynbrook School District were selected to participate in the 2017 Nassau All-County Art Exhibition, which took place at Farmingdale State College on March 12.

The show, sponsored by the Art Supervisors Association of Nassau County, highlighted the work of students in grades K-12 who demonstrated excellence in a wide variety of two-dimensional visual art forms, including drawing, painting, printmaking, computer graphics and photography.

Student entries were selected by art educators, who ensured that all of the exemplary pieces were created in alignment with the New York State Learning Standards for the Visual Arts. This year over 400 art educators from more than 200 schools in 50 Nassau County school districts submitted student artwork for this prestigious exhibit.

Lynbrook High School senior Jennifer Stewart was chosen to receive a scholarship award from the Art Supervisors Association. She and her fellow scholarship recipients were honored in a special ceremony prior to the opening of the exhibit.
