In a powerful display of compassion and community spirit, the Student Council of Lynbrook North Middle School, co-chaired by Jocelyn Roslewicz and Shannon Ticas, recently came together to honor NYPD Hero Officer Sorrentino as he bravely battles 9/11-related cancer.
Officer Sorrentino, a dedicated public servant and first responder, has been courageously fighting health complications stemming from his service during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. His story of resilience and sacrifice deeply moved the students, inspiring them to take action and show their support.
Under the leadership of Roslewicz and Ticas, the Student Council organized a schoolwide initiative where students created heartfelt cards and a vibrant poster filled with messages of gratitude, encouragement, and hope. The halls of North Middle School were filled with color and compassion as students poured their creativity into honoring a true local hero.
“This was about more than just making cards,” said co-chair Shannon Ticas. “It was about showing Officer Sorrentino that he’s not alone — that our school stands with him.”
Jocelyn Roslewicz added, “We wanted to remind him that his bravery continues to inspire us every day. It was an honor to lead this effort.”
The initiative not only uplifted Officer Sorrentino but also served as a meaningful lesson in empathy, civic responsibility, and the enduring impact of 9/11 on the lives of first responders and their families.
Lynbrook North Middle School is proud to stand behind Officer Sorrentino and all those who have sacrificed in service to others. The Student Council’s tribute is a testament to the power of youth-led kindness and the strength of community. #OwlProud #OwlCares. View #OwlProud on Facebook View #OwlCares on Facebook
