Profile of the Owl

The Profile of the Owl

The Profile of the Owl initiative was created to answer a vital question for our school community: What does it mean to be a Lynbrook Owl? Through this collaborative effort, we gathered insights from more than 200 focus group participants and 650 survey respondents, representing every corner of our community, including students, parents, teachers, staff, alumni and local residents. Working closely with our research partners at Molloy University, we used this feedback to identify the skills, mindsets and traits our community believes are essential for Lynbrook graduates. This valuable input is already helping to shape our curriculum and guide the district’s educational mission as our Owls pursue paths beyond the classroom.

Problem-solving, critical thinking, financial literacy, digital literacy and communication emerged as the most desired skills. Open-mindedness, positivity, flexibility and the ability to adapt to an ever-changing world were identified as the most important mindsets, while traits such as a strong work ethic, resilience and respect stood out as vital to student success.

The Four Pillars

The Profile of the Owl is built on four essential pillars: creative and critical thinking, real-life skills, global citizenship and social-emotional learning. These pillars are not goals reserved for the end of a student’s educational journey; rather, they represent the skills, traits and mindsets that every student develops from the moment they enter our classrooms across all seven schools.
