A melting pot of cultures was on display at the Lynbrook Kindergarten Center on April 25 when high schoolers, community guests and kindergartners themselves entertained during the annual Multicultural Festival.
Throughout the event, Kindergarten Center classes gathered in front of the audience to perform dances to music, including the song “Funga Alafia,” a Korean fan dance and concluding with “It’s a Small World.” Students were wowed by the cultures on display from various guests, such as June Bridges’ Irish step dancing and Thomas Behan’s bagpipes performance, before joining a Greek group dance. Older peers from Lynbrook High School also displayed their cultural backgrounds, as Aurore Baptiste led a Haitian musical performance, Paula Rojas danced to “Danza de los Viejitos” and Juanita Martinez sang a Colombian song. A makeshift museum also displayed authentic cultural artifacts and students and guests enjoyed food brought in by Kindergarten Center families. The Multicultural Festival – a tradition at the Kindergarten Center – shows students the deep diversity that can be found right in their community.
