Counselor, retiree and sports teams’ philanthropic pursuits recognized in Lynbrook

Several individuals and teams received recognition at the Jan. 14 board of education meeting of the Lynbrook School District, including a retiree and a statewide recognized counselor.
Starting off the meeting, trustees and administrators recognized Lynbrook High School seniors and twins Julia and Jake Palay, who have honored their father’s legacy through the LEO Club by collecting eyeglasses for those in need. Julia and Jake were chosen as the Lynbrook Herald’s People of the Year.
Next, three sports teams – the girls tennis and volleyball teams and the football team – were praised for raising money for good causes. The tennis team, who were named conference champions and finished the season undefeated with a perfect 14-0 record, raised money for the team’s booster club and for breast cancer research through their Think Pink game. The volleyball team hosted a Dig Pink game that benefited the Side-Out Foundation, a non-profit organizes that raises money for breast cancer research. The football team held a benefit game for two students in the community in need.
Next, Lynbrook Guidance Chairperson Sue Moller was honored for being selected as a New York State Master Counselor. Mrs. Moller is one of three counselors on Long Island and one of 25 in New York State to be selected for the honor.
Finally, trustees accepted the retirement of Maureen Fraser, affectionately nicknamed the “gatekeeper” of West End School after 26 years as the door monitor. The district thanks Mrs. Fraser for her many years of service.
