Lynbrook North Middle School’s Hoot Café unites with local shop Ready Coffee

Students at Lynbrook North Middle School who regularly run the Hoot Café, which serves coffee to staff and students throughout the school, got a taste from the experts at Ready Coffee, who visited to give students the coffee shop experience.
The Hoot Café is a North Middle fan-favorite, as students in the special education program brighten days by serving hot beverages. On Feb. 11, Hoot Café members set up shop with help from employees from Ready Coffee, a local café in the Lynbrook community. They welcomed guests who lined up for the experience by giving out Hoot Café branded bracelets. At the cash register, students got real-life experience as they accepted orders and customers’ cash before returning the correct change. The team served Ready Coffee’s cold brew coffee, hot coffee and different flavors of Iced Tea, with all proceeds directly supporting the Hoot Café. Ready Coffee employees also engaged with students by answering various questions about the job.
“This has been an eye-opening and inspiring experience,” Ready Coffee manager Denzel Maitland said. “We received the opportunity to support our community, and we were thrilled to help out.”
“This unique opportunity gives our students real world experience while having some great fun,” special education teacher Bryton LaMantia said. “It’s so inspiring to see our Owl community come together in this way.”
