Waverly Park cuts ribbon on book vending machine

Waverly Park Elementary School in the Lynbrook School District held a celebratory event on Feb. 27 to cut the ribbon on a book vending machine, allowing students the exciting chance to pick their next read.
The entire school community gathered in the gymnasium for a grand morning ceremony, which featured students playing “Eye of the Tiger” on recorder and several student ambassador awards. The excitement built as students watched the reveal of the book vending machine followed by a ribbon cutting by Principal Allison Campbell and PTA co-president Dawn Sahakian and treasurer Nicole Mastrande. The addition was made possible thanks to efforts by the Waverly Park PTA. Lucky students who were randomly selected through the spinning of a wheel were the first to choose their own book. Throughout the year, every student will have the exciting opportunity to choose their next literary adventure.
“The book vending machine, donated by the PTA, is so important to Waverly Park School because it makes reading exciting, accessible and empowering for every student,” Mrs. Mastrande said.
“We are thankful to everyone who participated in our fundraisers, our incredible teachers and staff, and our administration for supporting this vision,” Mrs. Sahakian added. “This is what partnership looks like.”
