LHS DECA Chapter attends statewide conference

Last month, Lynbrook’s DECA chapter attended the New York State DECA Conference in Rochester. As a first-year chapter, just qualifying for the conference was a significant accomplishment.
Lynbrook’s DECA chapter was founded by Presidents Liam Gallagher and Addie DeFiore to provide practical business opportunities to students. With the support of advisors Ms. Kuethen and Dr. Tieniber, the chapter grew quickly. Multiple members qualified for states in December.
Throughout the conference, Lynbrook DECA members competed across a range of events, including Buying and Merchandising Operations and Financial Services Team Decision Making. Despite the challenge of competing at the state level for the first time, students relied on their preparation and delivered their presentations with confidence, demonstrating both professionalism and strong business knowledge.
In addition to competing, members attended workshops and speaker sessions that focused on entrepreneurship, personal branding, and professional development. These sessions provided valuable, real-world insights that extended beyond the competition and emphasized skills that will be applicable in future careers. Students also connected with peers from across New York who share similar interests in business, reinforcing the value of being part of a statewide network.
Overall, the conference pushed members outside of their comfort zones and strengthened confidence, leadership, and communication skills across the chapter. The experience was especially rewarding as it served as a historic moment for the program, with Luke Pignataro earning Lynbrook DECA’s first state medal. For a first-year chapter, this achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire team. Lynbrook DECA has established a strong foundation, and its continued growth will create lasting opportunities for future students.
