Lynbrook board honors conference champs and charitable endeavors
The Lynbrook School District Board of Education recognized standout athletes and their charitable pursuit at the Dec. 10 regular meeting at Lynbrook High School. Trustees also honored a retiree.
Welcoming guests to the meeting was the high school String Quartet, who played holiday songs. First to be recognized was the staff of the student-led newspaper, Horizon, who once again won several awards at the Empire State Scholastic Press Association Awards, including Bronze for Best Overall Newspaper. Both the girls soccer and boys volleyball teams were honored for being named conference champions, before both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams were recognized for amassing a $2,500 donation for the Rockville Centre Breast Cancer Coalition through charity games. Additionally, trustees accepted the retirement of Louise Young, a teaching assistant at Waverly Park.
