Marion Street students show how to ‘Be the Change’

Second graders at Marion Street Elementary School in the Lynbrook School District celebrated Be the Change Day on Oct. 7 by putting their creativity and kindness into action.
Students in Amy Brennan’s second grade class worked collaboratively to illustrate and assemble their own book highlighting small, meaningful ways they can make a difference in their school, community and the world around them. The class received a special visit from Superintendent Dr. Paul Lynch, who listened as students proudly read their book aloud and shared their inspiring ideas. From helping a friend to spreading smiles, the young changemakers demonstrated that even the smallest actions can have a big impact.
Be the Change Day is observed in honor of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday to teach students about peace and service. Mrs. Brennan’s students learned about Mr. Gandhi and were inspired by his quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
