As Dr. Paul Lynch prepares to retire on June 30, 2027, after 18 years of dedicated leadership and service to the Lynbrook Public Schools, the Board of Education is committed to conducting a thoughtful, inclusive and transparent search for the district’s next superintendent. The Lynbrook Board of Education has formally accepted the retirement of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Lynch, effective June 30, 2027, marking the conclusion of 18 years of distinguished service and leadership in the Lynbrook Public Schools.
Dr. Lynch has served as superintendent for the past three years, following 14 years in district leadership roles. Throughout his tenure, he has remained dedicated to advancing educational excellence, supporting students and staff, and strengthening partnerships with families and the broader Lynbrook community.
“While we have the privilege of continuing to work alongside Dr. Lynch throughout this school year, tonight’s action provides an opportunity to recognize his remarkable service to the Lynbrook Public Schools,” said Board President Lesli Deninno. “For the past 17 years, Dr. Lynch has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our students, staff, families and community. Under his leadership, Lynbrook has continued to advance academic excellence while embracing innovation and a vision for the future. We are deeply grateful for his dedication, leadership and service. His impact on this district will be felt long after his retirement.”
Among Dr. Lynch’s most significant accomplishments was leading the development and implementation of the district’s Profile of the Owl, a framework designed to help students develop the skills, character traits and values needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. Centered on creative and critical thinking, real-life skills, social-emotional learning and global citizenship, the initiative has helped shape the district’s vision for the future.
Reflecting on his decision to retire, Dr. Lynch expressed his deep appreciation for the Lynbrook community and confidence in the district’s future.
“When I came to Lynbrook in 2009, I was told this community would become a second home, and after 17 years, I know that could not be more true,” said Dr. Lynch. “It has been an incredible privilege to serve Lynbrook’s students, staff, families and residents. I am especially proud of the work we have done together to bring the Profile of the Owl to life and prepare students with the skills and values they need for success in a changing world. While I am looking forward to retirement, I remain fully committed to serving this community throughout the year ahead and working closely with the Board of Education to ensure a thoughtful and seamless leadership transition. Thank you for the trust and support you have shown me over the years. Lynbrook will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Dr. Lynch will continue to lead the district throughout the 2026-2027 school year, ensuring continuity and progress on key district priorities while supporting a smooth transition to new leadership.
The Board of Education will conduct a thorough and transparent search for Lynbrook’s next superintendent and will keep the community informed and engaged throughout the process.

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! Our teachers and staff have already returned and are eager to welcome students on Wednesday.
On a personal note, I would like to let the Lynbrook Community know of my decision to retire at the end of this school year. I have submitted notice of my retirement to the Board of Education, and at Wednesday night's meeting, I expect them to approve my resignation for the purpose of retirement effective June 30, 2027.
When I came to Lynbrook in 2009, Dr. Barbarino promised I would feel at home here and would be embraced by this community. After seventeen years, I know he was right. Lynbrook has truly become my second home. From day one, I identified with the Owl spirit that pervades this district. I have worked to articulate that vision and to embody it to the best of my ability, and now the time has come for me to pass it on.
I am especially proud of the work we have done to bring the Profile of the Owl to life. By focusing on creative and critical thinking, real-life skills, social-emotional learning, and global citizenship, we are helping ensure that our students are prepared for success in a rapidly changing world.
While this year will be my last as Superintendent, my focus remains where it has always been: on our students and the continued success of our schools. I look forward to seeing you at our concerts, plays, science fairs, art shows, honor society inductions, games, and all the celebrations that are so meaningful to this community.
The Board of Education will be announcing its plans to begin the search process for a new superintendent on Wednesday night. I have pledged to work closely with them to ensure a thoughtful, seamless leadership transition.
I thank you all for the trust you have placed in me over all these years, and I look forward to a truly great year.
