As the superintendent search moves into its next phase, the Board of Education remains committed to keeping our community informed and engaged throughout the process. Thanks to the valuable feedback provided by students, staff, families and community members, the community forums and focus groups have now been completed and a leadership profile outlining the qualities and characteristics most desired in the district’s next superintendent has been finalized.

Working closely with School Leadership, our executive search firm, the formal search process is now underway. Recruitment efforts have begun, and position announcements are being placed in both regional and national educational publications to attract a highly qualified and diverse pool of candidates.

To help the community stay informed, a detailed superintendent search timeline has been developed and is available on the district website. The timeline outlines key milestones throughout the process and reflects the Board’s commitment to conducting a thorough and thoughtful search.

The Board anticipates appointing the district’s next superintendent at either the March or April 2027 Board of Education meeting. Prior to the meeting, the district will share a communication inviting community members to attend and meet the selected candidate as they are formally introduced and appointed as the district’s next superintendent.

Dear Colleagues: 

The Board of Education of the Lynbrook UFSD is seeking a Superintendent of Schools to begin on July 1, 2027. They are looking for an outstanding educational leader, who possesses knowledge of curriculum, instruction, personnel, special education, school finance, and school safety and security.

The Lynbrook Union Free School District is a high-performing suburban public school district located in Nassau County on Long Island, New York. The District serves approximately 2,800 students in seven schools and employs approximately 660 faculty and staff members. The annual operating budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, approved by 73% of the community, is approximately $115 million. 

The District is recognized for strong academic programs, extensive opportunities in the arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities, and a longstanding tradition of community support for public education. Recent District initiatives have included implementation of the community-developed Profile of the Owl framework, expansion of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), enhanced student wellness initiatives, modernization of Shared Decision-Making structures, and continued investment in instructional improvement.

Ideally the candidate should have experience as a classroom teacher and building and central office administrator. Moreover, the successful candidate must possess NYS Certification as a School District Administrator or School District Leader. The Board of Education is offering a regionally competitive salary and benefits package. 

The Board of Education has hired School Leadership, LLC consulting firm to assist in the search for the new Superintendent of Schools. On the other side of this letter, by way of summary by School Leadership, LLC, are the major characteristics that the input from the school and community stakeholder groups would suggest the Board of Education should be seeking and screening for in candidates for the position.

The successful candidate will be:

• A hardworking educator with a love for children who has experience as a teacher, building administrator, and central office administrator with a proven record for accomplishing tasks and implementing effective policies and procedures while working collaboratively and cooperatively with all school and community groups. 

• An effective communicator with all constituent groups who is authentic, approachable, sincere, consistent, and able to earn the trust of staff and families while being highly visible within the schools and community and who embraces and respects the Lynbrook culture and traditions thereby becoming invested in the community. 

• A leader with a vision to move beyond the current practice to take an already successful school district to the next level by setting high expectations, monitoring measurable outcomes, thinking strategically about academics, athletics, fine arts, facilities, school safety, and technology to ensure continuous improvement. 

• A personable and energetic administrator who demonstrates the importance of creating positive working relationships with all staff members, parents, and students through sincere interaction, active listening, and fair and consistent decision-making. 

• An administrator with a broad range of experience who can coordinate tasks and efforts among curriculum, assessment, and personnel, while balancing students’ needs and community interests with long term financial planning.

Community Invited to Participate in Superintendent Search Forums

Dear Community Members,

The Board of Education is committed to conducting a thorough and inclusive search for the district’s next superintendent. As part of this process, following an open request for proposal and interview process, the Board has engaged School Leadership LLC to assist with gathering stakeholder feedback and identifying the qualities and characteristics most important in our next educational leader. 

We invite parents, residents, community members and other stakeholders to participate in one of the upcoming community forums facilitated by School Leadership. Feedback collected during these sessions will help inform the development of the superintendent leadership profile and guide the search process.

In addition to these community forums, School Leadership has also scheduled focus groups with faculty and staff to ensure employee voices and perspectives are included throughout the process.

The Lynbrook Board of Education has formally accepted the retirement of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Lynch, effective June 30, 2027, marking the conclusion of 18 years of distinguished service and leadership in the Lynbrook Public Schools.

Dr. Lynch has served as superintendent for the past three years, following 14 years in district leadership roles. Throughout his tenure, he has remained dedicated to advancing educational excellence, supporting students and staff, and strengthening partnerships with families and the broader Lynbrook community.

“While we have the privilege of continuing to work alongside Dr. Lynch throughout this school year, tonight’s action provides an opportunity to recognize his remarkable service to the Lynbrook Public Schools,” said Board President Lesli Deninno. “For the past 17 years, Dr. Lynch has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our students, staff, families and community. Under his leadership, Lynbrook has continued to advance academic excellence while embracing innovation and a vision for the future. We are deeply grateful for his dedication, leadership and service. His impact on this district will be felt long after his retirement.”

Among Dr. Lynch’s most significant accomplishments was leading the development and implementation of the district’s Profile of the Owl, a framework designed to help students develop the skills, character traits and values needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. Centered on creative and critical thinking, real-life skills, social-emotional learning and global citizenship, the initiative has helped shape the district’s vision for the future.

Reflecting on his decision to retire, Dr. Lynch expressed his deep appreciation for the Lynbrook community and confidence in the district’s future.

“When I came to Lynbrook in 2009, I was told this community would become a second home, and after 17 years, I know that could not be more true,” said Dr. Lynch. “It has been an incredible privilege to serve Lynbrook’s students, staff, families and residents. I am especially proud of the work we have done together to bring the Profile of the Owl to life and prepare students with the skills and values they need for success in a changing world. While I am looking forward to retirement, I remain fully committed to serving this community throughout the year ahead and working closely with the Board of Education to ensure a thoughtful and seamless leadership transition. Thank you for the trust and support you have shown me over the years. Lynbrook will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Dr. Lynch will continue to lead the district throughout the 2026-2027 school year, ensuring continuity and progress on key district priorities while supporting a smooth transition to new leadership.

Dear Lynbrook Families,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! Our teachers and staff have already returned and are eager to welcome students on Wednesday.

On a personal note, I would like to let the Lynbrook Community know of my decision to retire at the end of this school year. I have submitted notice of my retirement to the Board of Education, and at Wednesday night's meeting, I expect them to approve my resignation for the purpose of retirement effective June 30, 2027.

When I came to Lynbrook in 2009, Dr. Barbarino promised I would feel at home here and would be embraced by this community. After seventeen years, I know he was right. Lynbrook has truly become my second home. From day one, I identified with the Owl spirit that pervades this district. I have worked to articulate that vision and to embody it to the best of my ability, and now the time has come for me to pass it on.

I am especially proud of the work we have done to bring the Profile of the Owl to life. By focusing on creative and critical thinking, real-life skills, social-emotional learning, and global citizenship, we are helping ensure that our students are prepared for success in a rapidly changing world.

While this year will be my last as Superintendent, my focus remains where it has always been: on our students and the continued success of our schools. I look forward to seeing you at our concerts, plays, science fairs, art shows, honor society inductions, games, and all the celebrations that are so meaningful to this community.

The Board of Education will be announcing its plans to begin the search process for a new superintendent on Wednesday night. I have pledged to work closely with them to ensure a thoughtful, seamless leadership transition.

I thank you all for the trust you have placed in me over all these years, and I look forward to a truly great year.
