Summer Playground Information

Lynbrook Schools hosts a community based program to support children of this community each year. Registration for the program is open to students entering kindergarten through eighth grade. Playground programs are offered on two campuses each summer and are staffed by teachers and college & high school students. Activities include sports and an arts and crafts program. Activities are conducted outdoors, weather permitting and indoors on rainy days. Private and parochial school students are invited. Information will be posted on ParentSquare and on the district website in the Spring.

Welcome to Lynbrook's Summer Playground

Lynbrook Summer Playground Reminders for Parents and Campers

We have registered over 600 campers this summer.  The children will make new friends, socialize and will enjoy attending every day.  Thank you for your support.  Working together and adhering to rules will guarantee that our program will be enjoyable for all.

I will be posting periodic information and reminders about things going on regarding our summer playground program.  Don’t forget to print out a copy of the calendars that will be posted on our district website under summer playground.  These calendars will provide you with important events,  including field trips an special event days that will take place during  our summer playground program.

If you need to contact the nurse or site supervisor use the following numbers:

Marion Street – 516-315-3759                                 Nortth Middle School -  516-250-0275

If you are late and the gate is locked, please call the supervisor at one of the above numbers.

If your child is enrolled in the Brain Boost program, that program begins at 8:00 am.  Your child will be dismissed at 9:00.  If your child is then attending summer playground, the staff from the Brain Boost program will bring your child for lineup to his assigned summer playground group.  If your child in enrolled in RAS which will only take place only at Marion Street this summer, the summer playground staff will place children in a particular spot ready for them to be supervised by the RAS staff. Any questions regarding RAS should be directed to the RAS supervisors.

Summer Playground Announcements

Announcements for Week 1

Some reminders for now:

If you paid the registration fee by check, these checks will be cashed after July 1.

The first day of camp is 7/1 and will begin at 9:00 and end at noon.  Please be on time for pickup since we dismiss at noon.  We will be closed on Friday, 7/3.  The last day of summer playground is Friday, August 7th.  We will dismiss on that day at 10am.

Be certain to fill out the green emergency card that will be given to campers and return it to your child’s head counselor.  Most important, if your child is to be picked up by someone other than a parent or guardian please write a note to the head counselor of your child’s group granting that permission.    If your child is allowed to walk home or go home with a sibling or other children please write a note stating that and give it to the head counselor.  Security and safety is our first priority. At Marion Street, drop off and pick up will be in the back of the building.  At North Middle School drop off and pick up will be on the field near the parking lot.  Be on the outlook for group signs so that you know where your child’s group is.

On day 1 at Marion Street group lists will be posted on the fence nearest the parking lot.  At NMS group lists will be posted at the entrance near the field.  Check to see where your child has been placed.  Drop off and pick up will be from that group spot.

Bring doctor’s orders and any inhalers, medicine, EpiPen etc. to the nurse on day 1.  The nurse cannot administer any medicine without these doctor’s orders.

Campers should bring everyday a peanut free snack and a couple of bottles of very cold water.  We will have an igloo filled with water for refills.  We do not serve breakfast or lunch. Snacks that campers bring should not be shared with anyone.  Remind your child not to eat any other campers’ snacks.  Sharing of food among campers is not permitted.

We do not celebrate birthdays at camp with any food.

Apply sunscreen before your child leaves home to come to camp.  Be certain that you pack an extra towel, tee shirt and shorts if your child uses the sprinklers.  Our staff does not apply sunscreen and does not remove or put on bathing suits.  After going in the sprinklers, campers will have time to sit on their towel and dry off on the field.   Be certain that campers use pool shoes when going in the sprinklers.  I discourage flip flops.  Label all articles of clothing, towels and water bottles with their name and group number.  They should also wear a baseball cap.  It does get hot!

Payment for field trips should be in cash only.  In addition to the venue fee, we will also be collecting $5 for the bus for every field trip.  Permission slips will be required for all field trips.  Head counselors will distribute these to the children.  Hopefully, all campers will participate in these field trips.

Depending on the heat index and when it reaches 90 degrees, campers will be taken off the field or turf and will take shelter in a cool spot or will come indoors.

Do not bring pets at drop off or pick up.

In the event of closure due to weather, you will receive a communication on parent square.

We are fortunate to have security guards and crossing guards at both sites to assist during drop off and pick up.  We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer.

Leonard Bruno, Director, Summer Playground and Site Supervisor at Marion Street.

Lisa Darress, Site Supervisor at North Middle School
