Students in the special education program at North Middle School in the Lynbrook School District kicked off the school year on Sept. 16 by welcoming teachers and peers to a special “Meet and Greet” event celebrating their summer experiences.

Teachers throughout the school signed up to visit the class and spend time getting to know the students while asking about their summer adventures. To help share their experiences, students created personalized slideshows featuring highlights and memories from their summer vacations and activities. They were also joined by peers from across the school, creating an opportunity for students to connect, share stories and build relationships in a welcoming environment.

“This event provided a fun and meaningful way for students to reconnect with their school community while practicing communication and presentation skills by sharing a little bit of their lives with others,” special education teacher Bryton LaMantia said.
