Artificial Intelligence in Lynbrook Schools

Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing how people work, learn, and communicate, and it raises important questions for schools and families. Lynbrook Public Schools is approaching AI thoughtfully. The district is carefully studying how AI can support teaching and learning, what safeguards are needed, and how it connects to the digital literacy our community identified as essential in the Profile of the Owl.

This work is being guided by the district Technology Committee, which includes [administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders]. As the committee's work progresses, the district will consult with students, families, staff, and community members before establishing practices for AI use. This page will be updated as that work moves forward.

At a glance: Lynbrook teachers have access to MagicSchool, an AI platform designed for educators. Students are not presently enrolled in MagicSchool or any district AI platform. Practices for student use will be developed through consultation with our school community.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • During the 2026-27 school year, Lynbrook is implementing MagicSchool for teachers and administrators. MagicSchool is an AI platform built specifically for education. Teachers are being introduced to it through professional learning, with an emphasis on responsible and purposeful use.

  • Staff use of MagicSchool is intended to promote efficiency and to help personalize student learning. For example, a teacher might use it to draft a lesson outline, create a rubric, generate practice questions, or adjust a reading passage to different levels so more students can access the same content. Teachers review and refine anything AI produces. AI supports their professional judgment and does not replace it.

  • No. Students are not presently enrolled in MagicSchool, and student accounts are not active. Any decision about student access will be made only after the district has consulted with families, educators, and administrators about appropriate use.

  • AI tools are held to the same student data privacy standards as every other digital tool the district uses. MagicSchool appears on the district's approved software list, which is limited to vendors reviewed for compliance with New York State student data privacy requirements, including Education Law 2-d. You can learn more on the district's Data Security and Privacy page or review the vendor inventory and privacy agreements.

  • Expectations for student use of AI are part of the Technology Committee's current work and will be shaped through conversations with our school community. In the meantime, students should follow their teacher's directions about whether and how outside tools may be used on a given assignment. If you or your child are unsure, the classroom teacher is the best person to ask.

  • The district's existing Board of Education policies on technology use and student data continue to guide the use of all digital tools, including AI. Relevant policies include:

    • Policy 4526, Computer Use in Instruction
    • Policy 4526.1, Internet Safety
    • Policy 8635, Information Security Breach and Notification

All Board policies are available in the Lynbrook Board Policy Manual.
