Lynbrook's standards-based art program is taught entirely by certified art teachers. From their first lessons in kindergarten to advanced studio work in high school, students build skills, explore a growing range of materials and mediums, and learn to see, think about, and talk about art.
Art Across the Grades
Kindergarten and Elementary
Grades K-5
Students learn the basic elements and principles of art and design, along with art history, aesthetics, and art criticism. They are introduced to the materials and techniques they need to create their own work.
Middle School
Grades 6-8
Students explore more advanced concepts and a wider range of mediums while studying art history and popular culture. Eighth graders with a serious interest and advanced ability may take an accelerated Studio in Art course.
Lynbrook High School
Grades 9-12
A wide range of elective courses lets students explore traditional and digital media, develop their own artistic voice, and build portfolios for college and beyond.
Lynbrook High School Art Courses
High school students can choose from courses in traditional, digital, and three-dimensional media, building toward advanced and college-level work.
Studio in Art
A foundation course that introduces students to traditional approaches to art making.
Digital Design
Students create original artwork using computer applications.
Studio in Drawing and Painting
A focus on two-dimensional work and the techniques of drawing and painting.
Photo Illustration
Digital photography and image editing with Adobe Photoshop.
Advanced Drawing and Painting
Builds on earlier coursework, with an emphasis on three-dimensional renderings.
Printmaking and Sculpture
Students produce multiple prints and create sculpture in media such as wire and plaster.
Graphic Design
Computer-aided design that combines images and text.
Portfolio Preparation and Art in Context
For seniors preparing portfolios for admission to college art programs.
AP Studio Art
A rigorous, college-level course that expects significant work outside of class.
